Introduction

In May 2021, CORE began work on another contract with Marshall CDP, providing earthworks and civil engineering services as part of plans to create a new development in Oldham that will provide 2 industrial and warehouse units in a quality landscaped setting.

The work content was complex and included: earthworks to form plateaus (including soil improvement), box culverts, in-situ concrete walls, drainage, new road and footpaths, gabion retaining walls, erosion control matting, dealing with invasive species, stone blankets to building and hard standings.

The duration of the contract was 30 weeks.

CORE began by clearing the site, removing invasive species and removing topsoil material which was remodelled to accommodate the development plateaux. CORE also installed underground drainage culverts alongside highway improvements for access into the new development site.

The installation of the 9.5 tonne concrete culverts took only 4 days. Total length of culvert sections = circa 24m. There are 16 sections each 1.5m long X 2.1m wide X 1.8m deep. We undertook soil stabilisation, which is the act of adding a cementitious material to the soil to improve its density/bearing capacity properties.

The scheme fronts the B6189 Foxdenton Lane close to its junction with Broadgate. Junction 21 of the M60 motorway is located approximately 1 mile away and can be accessed via Broadgate or the A663 Broadway.
